The Government of Pakistan announced that it has directed the Pakistan cricket team to take the field for its scheduled ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match on February 15, 2026, following positive outcomes of multilateral discussions and requests from friendly countries.
According to an official statement shared by the Pakistan Government on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was formally briefed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on the results of high-level deliberations held between the PCB, representatives of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The government said it reviewed formal requests made by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, along with supporting communications from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and other member nations, urging Pakistan’s leadership to help secure a viable and amicable solution to the prevailing situation.
The statement further noted that the Prime Minister held a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, during which both leaders recalled the longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and their history of standing together during challenging times. The Sri Lankan President requested serious consideration to resolve the matter amicably.
“In view of the outcomes achieved in multilateral discussions, as well as the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan hereby directs the Pakistan National Cricket Team to take the field on February 15, 2026, for its scheduled fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” the statement read.
