No Mandatory LPG eKYC for All Consumers, Refill Supply Unaffected: Govt Clarifies

New Delhi, Mar 17: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that biometric Aadhaar authentication (eKYC) for LPG consumers is not mandatory for all users and applies only to those who have not yet completed the process.

The clarification comes amid circulating reports suggesting that all LPG users would be required to undergo biometric Aadhaar authentication to continue receiving gas cylinder refills.

In a statement, the ministry said the recent communication on eKYC is not a fresh directive but part of the government’s ongoing efforts to encourage consumers to complete the authentication process.

Officials said LPG consumers who have already completed eKYC earlier are not required to repeat the process.

The ministry also clarified that beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) need to complete eKYC only once every financial year. This requirement applies for receiving targeted Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) subsidies after seven refills, specifically for the 8th and 9th refill.

According to the ministry, the eKYC process can be completed easily from home and is free of cost.

It further assured consumers that the supply of LPG refills will not be affected in any case.

The ministry said the eKYC initiative aims to improve transparency, identify genuine beneficiaries, eliminate duplicate or ghost connections and prevent diversion or misuse of LPG subsidies.
