Fire Incidents Damage Seven Buses at Kupwara Bus Stand and Five Houses at Shalla Kadal, Srinagar

Srinagar/Kupwara, Apr 9 (TKHN): Two major fire incidents were reported late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning in Kupwara and Srinagar, causing significant damage to public transport and residential property, though no casualties were reported in either incident.

According to officials, a massive fire broke out at the Kupwara Main Bus Stand at approximately 11:27 PM, following which an alert was received at the District Fire Control Room Kupwara. Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) personnel rushed to the scene and found multiple buses engulfed in flames.

Firefighting operations were launched immediately, and after several hours of sustained efforts, the blaze was brought under control. Seven buses at Kupwara Main Bus Stand were damaged in the incident—three buses were severely damaged, three sustained partial damage, and one bus was affected by heat and smoke. Fire personnel managed to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a devastating fire erupted in the early hours of Thursday at Shalla Kadal in the Habba Kadal area of Srinagar. A distress call was received at 3:32 AM at the State Fire Control Room Batamaloo, prompting the swift deployment of fire tenders from multiple stations.

Upon arrival, firefighters found several closely packed residential houses engulfed in flames. The situation worsened due to multiple gas cylinder explosions, which intensified the blaze and led to further spread. Five residential houses at Shalla Kadal, Habba Kadal were gutted, with structures and household belongings extensively damaged in the incident.

In both cases, firefighting operations were carried out under the overall supervision of ADGP Fire & Emergency Services, Alok Kumar (IPS), with senior officials present on the ground to oversee and manage the situation.

Despite the scale of the incidents, no loss of life or injuries have been reported. The causes of both fires are yet to be ascertained and are currently under investigation.

Further details are awaited as authorities continue their inquiries. (TKHN)
