Srinagar, June 15 (TKHN): Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, on Monday announced that the crescent moon marking the beginning of Muharram was not sighted anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to The Kashmir Honour News (TKHN), the Grand Mufti said that no credible reports of moon sighting had been received from any part of the region. Consequently, the current Islamic month will complete 30 days, and the month of Muharram will commence on Wednesday, June 17.
He further stated that Youm-e-Ashura (10th Muharram) will be observed on Friday, June 26.
The Grand Mufti extended his greetings to the Muslim Ummah on the arrival of the Islamic New Year and the blessed month of Muharram. He urged people to observe the month with devotion, patience, and reflection, while praying for peace, unity, and prosperity.
Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year and holds profound religious significance for Muslims around the world. (TKHN)
