Zil Hajj Crescent Sighted in J&K, Eid-ul-Adha on May 27: Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam

Srinagar, May 17 (TKHN): Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, on Sunday announced that the crescent for the Islamic month of Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri has been sighted in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to The Kashmir Honour News (TKHN), the Grand Mufti said the crescent was sighted this evening, following which the Islamic month of Zil Hajj will begin from tomorrow, May 18, while Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on May 27 across the region.

He also appealed to people to observe Eid-ul-Adha in its true spirit and avoid turning the occasion into a show-off. He urged people not to display sacrificial animals for status or pride. The Grand Mufti further urged people to maintain cleanliness and avoid throwing animal hides and remains on roads and public places, saying the sacred practice of sacrifice should be carried out with dignity and responsibility.

Eid-ul-Adha, one of the major Islamic occasions, is observed with special prayers, charity and animal sacrifice. Following the announcement, people across Jammu and Kashmir will now begin preparations for the festival, while markets to witness increased activity ahead of Eid. (TKHN)
